An exploration in texture.

I am interested in utilitarian pottery; creating beautiful wares that seamlessly integrate themselves into our everyday life. While pottery should blend in as far as usage and lifestyle, it should also bring joy and beauty into the home. The harmonious blend of design and utility in pottery brings character to our living spaces and is a true reflection of ourselves.

I primarily use stoneware clay bodies. Their durability over time benefits the user, and holds strong when carving detailed patterns. My patterns are influenced by the natural patterns of the world and those found in modern society.

The direction of the carving determines glaze flow, and determines where the fingers may follow the bright and colorful glaze drips. Using both a matte and glossy glaze, I offer the user options and allow myself to simultaneously explore both avenues.

My primary focus is texture, the sensory feel of the object. I want the sensation the user has while holding an object and feeling the texture to be one of enjoyment. Not a texture that makes the piece almost unusable, but one that has you reaching for it time and time again.

Meet the Team

  • Owner / Ceramic Artist

Meet the “OC” of OC Ceramics, Olivia! The maker and shaker behind all these handmade wares. Growing up Olivia always knew she wanted to be an artist since day one, and upon entering college, ceramics grabbed her attention and never let go. Since then she’s been obsessed with making functional wares and running a ceramics studio. She graduated with a BFA in ceramics in 2016 and the OC Ceramics studio was built shortly after. The studio has grown to a full time job, stocking in local shops, selling online and participating in art festivals. Come to an art fest and say hi, she would love to meet you!

  • Shipping Expert / Silent Partner

The second face of OC, Heather! She has been assisting with OC Ceramics since the beginning, becoming an expert in shipping, learning how to glaze, and talking to customers at art festivals. She also makes the macrame for any hanging planters we sell! In her free time she enjoys gardening, kayaking, hiking and watching her dogs, Chip and Sebastian. Come to an art festival and say hi!
